The opening ceremony of Nanjing Photoelectric Technology Innovation Center—a new-type research institute jointly established by Nanjing Municipal People’s Government and Nanjing University—was held in Jiangbei New Area (Pilot FTZ) on the morning of Jan 19. Zhang Jinghua, Member of the Standing Committee of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Party Secretary of CPC Nanjing Municipal Committee, as well as Hu Jinbo, Party Secretary (Chancellor) of Nanjing University attended the event.

Representing another important platform as well as distinctive carrier, Nanjing Photoelectric Technology Innovation Center aims to facilitate Nanjing in its efforts to build a famous city for innovation by enhancing cooperation between the local government and prestigious institutes of higher learning and accelerating commercialization of university-based research results. By adopting standards of world top research institutes, the Center will focus on key areas and crucial links in photoelectric technology and industrial innovation, offering high-level technology supplies and technology transfer support to the photoelectric industry both home and abroad, and building a high-level transfer platform for technological innovation and engineering in the photoelectric sector.    

Under the leadership of a governing council, the Center’s daily operation is taken care of by its Director. It builds on the successful model of the new-type research institutes in Nanjing by connecting state level platforms including Nanjing University National Key Lab of Solid Microstructural Physics with photoelectric industrial parks. By doing so, the Center can both conduct state-of-the-art researches in photoelectricity integration and work with leading enterprises in the field to tackle major generic technological difficulties, enhance commercialization of research results, and make Nanjing a magnet for the high-end photoelectric industry.       

Luo Qun, Member of the Standing Committee of CPC Nanjing Municipal Committee and full-time Deputy Secretary of the CPC Working Committee in Jiangbei New Area, and Lu Yanqing, Vice President of Nanjing University addressed the opening ceremony. Zhao Gang, Executive President of IOPTEE, who was responsible for the preparation of the establishment of the Center, briefed on the development plan of the Center. The Center also signed cooperation agreements with some enterprises during the ceremony.

Also present at the ceremony were Liu Qing, President of Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute; Jing Mao, Inspector at Level II of Jiangsu Department of Science and Technology; leaders from Nanjing City and Jiangbei New Area including Wang Hua, Jiang Yuejian and Wang Wei; as well as persons-in-charge from competent departments of Nanjing University, institutes and enterprises.
